K-12 Rules

Participant Eligibility:

  • Grades K-12 at schools in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties are eligible to participate.
  • Entries must be completed individually.
  • Each student is invited to submit one entry.

Entry Criteria:

Each entry must be:

  • submitted at a size of 14 inches wide x 17 inches tall or 11 inches wide x 17 inches tall.
  • submitted via the contest website or standard U.S. mail.
  • submitted with a Metra Safety Poster Contest entry form.
  • the participant's original work.

Please note, no photography, trademarked or copyrighted characters may be used in any entry.

Judging Criteria:

Winning entries will be selected on the basis of:

  • creativity
  • originality
  • fulfillment of contest guidelines
  • expression of the contest theme, "Lead the Way: Look, Listen and Live."

Winners will be notified in the summer.

Prizes:

A first place, second place and third place winner will be selected from each participating grade level, K-12.

  • First place winners will receive an iPad.
  • Second place winners will receive a $250 Gift Card.
  • Third place winners will receive a $100 Gift Card.

Winning entries will be printed as next year's safety posters, displayed in Metra stations, featured in the Metra Safety Calendar and included in Metra's downloadable safety screensaver.

Deadline:

All entries must be received by March 15, 2012. Entries can be submitted via the contest website, www.metracontest.com, or via mail to:

Please note that all winning entries will have to be scanned and therefore cannot contain three dimensional artwork or be folded for mailing.

Please contact Metra at info@metracontest.com or at (312) 322-6491, if your school is participating in the contest. Additionally, if you prefer to work with printed materials, please contact Metra via the information above to request a Metra Safety Poster Contest starter kit.

Metra is not responsible for lost, stolen or incomplete entries. Metra cannot return poster materials or completed entries submitted as part of the contest. Once submitted, Metra becomes the owner of all posters and related materials.

By submitting materials for Metra's 2011-2012 Safety Poster Contest you are agreeing that all participants have parental consent to submit materials to Metra. Additionally, you are giving Metra permission to use the name, hometown and school of each participant. Pictures of winners also may be taken for and used in Metra promotional activities related to the poster contest.
