West Chicago District 33 Currier School Artist Places in Metra Safety Poster Contest

More than 200 students from Currier School in West Chicago Elementary School District 33 entered Metra's 4th Annual Safety Poster Contest under the guidance of art teacher Linda Rooney.

Jennifer Barrera, a sixth grade student at Currier School placed second in her age group. Jennifer will receive a $250 gift card from Metra.

The fourth annual contest was open to students ages K-12 throughout the six-county Northeastern Illinois region. The theme for the contest was "Make the Right Choice: Look, Listen, and Live". The winning poster designs will be featured in more than 2,000 schools in the region to encourage safety around trains. The designs will also be featured in Metra's annual safety calendar, included in Metra's downloadable safety screensaver, and displayed in Metra train stations throughout Northeastern Illinois.

First, second and third place winners were chosen from each grade level. While first place winners receive a laptop computer, the second and third place winners received $250.00 and $100.00 gift cards respectively.

District 33's art program is second to none in the area. To see more student art work, stop by the District Office at 312 E. Forest Avenue in West Chicago where some of the best regularly adorns the walls throughout the building.
