Metra honored the winners of its annual safety contest during a recent board of director's meeting.
Contest winners' entries were officially unveiled, and students were recognized for their contribution to railroad safety in front of parents, educators and the Metra board of directors.
Mokena resident Emily Wisinski, a fifth-grade student at Mokena Intermediate School, wrote an essay following the theme "Look, Listen and Live" and won in the elementary school division.
"The winning entries will be used substantially to help Metra promote a culture of safety," said Metra officials in a news release.
The entries will be featured as safety posters and distributed to schools. They also will be featured in Metra's safety calendar and on monthly tickets.
Wisinski received a laptop computer in recognition of her work.
