Metra is proud to introduce it’s first-ever Metra Safety Essay Contest. The contest is the latest piece in our ongoing effort to engage students in lifesaving railroad safety practices. We ask participants to tell us in 300 words or less what railroad safety means to you and why it is so important that we all practice safe behaviors near trains and railroad tracks.

Please explore the links below to find a complete listing of contest rules and guidelines and to learn how to submit your contest entry through this site. One winner will be selected from each grade group, Elementary School (grades K-4), Middle School (grades 5-8) and High School (grades 9-12).

Winning entries will be featured on the Metra Contest Web site, on promotional safety materials and read at an upcoming Metra Board of Director’s meeting. Winning entries will be selected by community leaders and Metra representatives and contestants will be notified next spring.

Good luck!
